Chinese teachers who teach at international schools often encounter the challenge of disengaged students who complain that Chinese lessons are too difficult. Well-planned simulation-based learning with a focus on interactive communication and real-world problem solving can effectively improve the enthusiasm and performance of learners in a Chinese classroom. Simulations create a rich and real-world communication environment for language learners who are given new identities, perform tasks, and solve problems in groups based on the background information provided. Participants of this workshop will explore two simulation-based learning cases implemented in a PYP Chinese class and finish with ideas on design and implement simulation-based learning in their own classes. Learning outcomes:
A good understanding of what simulation is and its value in language teaching and learning; Some concrete ideas on design and implement simulation-based learning in their own classes;
